147.895 holidaymakers decided to visit Bodenmais 2010

Record year 2010:

BTM starts many new projects 2011 / 865.120 overnight stays with an average duration of 5,9 days underline the continuing positive trend in Bodenmais since 2007.

2010 was a record year for Bodenmais. Since 1950 the resort has never been able to welcome so many guests as in the year 2010. Approximately 148,000 overnight accommodation guests spent their holidays in Bodenmais. With a holiday duration average of 5.9 days, Bodenmais is well predicated as a holiday resort. The revised overnight accommodation figures from 2010 compared to 2009 show a plus on guest arrivals of 6.8 percent and a 3.9 percent rise on overnight accommodations. All in all a total of 865.120 overnight stays were accomplished 2010.

Consequently the visitor tax revenue of the resort has positively improved. However the Bodenmais Tourismus & Marketing GmbH is not entirely satisfied with the results. A target of 900.000 overnight accommodations was set, but due to an “overnight stay slump” at the end of the year and a decline on the group recuperation and clinic, the ambitiously set target wasn’t reached. The main group of guests 2010 came once again from NRW, Hessen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Bavaria and the new federal states. The Northerners and holidaymakers from abroad played a less important role in Bodenmais.

There are several points on the agenda 2011 concerning the further development of tourism, to keep up the pace on tourism development in Bodenmais and increase expansion. These are as follows:

• Planning and implementation of the new health program in co-operation with the Silberberg Clinic as partner
• A quality offensive to ensure that more holiday flats and pensions gain WellVital status. Currently there are approximately 30 lodgings taking part on the training program
• Nationwide online booking facilities for all Bodenmais enterprises using numerous marketing channels
• Setup a GPS-hiking region “Bodenmais” in the spring
• Children’s club “Geocaching” – a modern treasure hunt for children
• Setup an E-Bike network and acquisition of approx. 30 E-Bikes
• A regular holiday-express in the summer and winter, with direct train connections between Bodenmais and touristic long distant travel
• Start a rating platform for caterers and retailers
• Further development of the events and activity engagement
• Further development of the primeval forest program
• Integration of the “Underground” youth-club in the Dorfclub program, to provide the youngsters with an attractive offer for the future
• A concept development of “Youth and school excursions”
• Expansion and intensification of the new hotel label “Premium-Hotels”

Furthermore, Bodenmais will continue to support and back such national events as the Women’s Alpine World Cup or the German Biathlon Championships with full conviction. ”These Events are a unique chance for our entire region”, said Andreas Lambeck, managing director of the BTM. ”I’m sure that we will take a big step forward next year. The never ending criticism that always comes from the same lobby at our place, really is the salt in the soup – they’ll always be there and now we’ve slowly got to the stage where we don’t want to miss them anyway”, said Lambeck further.

The constant discussion about the topic “cheap tourism” really is a hot air discussion, which unfortunately doesn’t even give the best arguments a chance to get rid of those doubts. No other holidays resort or indeed tourist institution in the entire Bavarian Forest sells itself more expensively than Bodenmais, which also goes for those responsible from the Tourismus GmbH. The absolutely lowest price from the Bodenmais Tourismus GmbH for an end customer 1 week family holiday ranges from € 369. – to € 619. -.

A low grade boarding house with bed and breakfast for 5 nights with a base price, ranges from € 119,- to € 149,-. The price for a 3 star hotel with the “Dorfvital” program for 7 nights with half-board for example, costs as a rule € 269,-. The price for a 4 star hotel in the Premium-Hotel category costs up to € 599,- for 7 nights with ¾ board. Andreas Lambeck further: “The never ending cheap price discussion is partly based on ignorance, but unfortunately also led by a few people – mainly those who aren’t taking part – for malicious reasons”. The BTM will proceed with its work and follow the route that has been taken. All constructive criticism is of course very welcome.
