Bodenmais visit to Sylt was a cracker

Bodenmais visit to Sylt was a cracker.

It was just unbelievable how many Syltians came to the 2nd Tinnum Street Festival, to experience the activities of the visitors from Bodenmais at first hand. A participating reporter colleague, responsible for the Bodenmais brochures, confirmed my perception that It really was thousands who were very interested in the delicacies and Bavarian beer served, and particularly the attractions offered: the Arber Marksmen silver salute, the Bodenmais ‘Tanzlmusi` and Johannes Weinberger with his accordion.
Bodenmais announced the visit in all newspapers on Sylt, with special pages and advertisements, on umpteen posters and billboards and with flyers. It was almost inconceivable how many visitors came to the relatively small celebration with just three catering booths, a small tent and a bazaar with several jumble sale stands. And there was definitely no proverbial ‘Northern chill’ feeling on Sylt, but a really warm and friendly welcome that embraced the visitors from the Bavarian Forest, who had started their journey at midnight on a bus run by the Wenzl travel agency. It was a return visit to continue the partnership with the Syltian Friesen villagers that began last year.
A Syltian delegation composing of Jutta Hinz and Wolfgang Buck from Sylt Tourism, Manfred Ueckermann from Sylt Landscape Office, local Advisory Council chairman Uwe Dau and Deputy Public Superintendent Hannelore Strauch were waiting to give Bodenmais a hearty welcome with the Bodenmais flag at the List ferry terminal. The visitors from Bodenmais thoroughly enjoyed the ferry crossing on the Sylt ferry. Due to the fact that many acquaintances were made during the visit from Sylt last April, there were many hugs and lots of nice to see you again encounters this time.
The first time, a Shanty choir and dance group came to the health resort at the foot of the Silberberg, in an effort to establish a partnership between Bodenmais and Sylt. In the meantime, the former tourism board manager Uwe Winter is engaged in Bad Bevensen, so now Sylt’s district Mayoress Petra Reiber has taken on the matter and given it “top priority”. She initially welcomed a small Bodenmais delegation, composing of managing director Andreas Lambeck and family, the head of the Bodenmais Business & Tourism Association e. V., Dr. Manfred Schappler, the deputy managing director of the BTM, Katharina Hartl with husband, Horst Zimmermann, branch manager from the Regen Wochenblatt and the Syltian welcoming committee.
