Despite the fact that it was cold and wet, the “Oktoberfest” in Essen was cheerfully celebrated, accompanied by a delegation who had had travelled from Bodenmais.
The Mayor Michael Adam and the managing director of the Bodenmais Tourismus & Marketing GmbH Andreas Lambeck opened the 2nd Bodenmaiser “Oktoberfest”, together with the Mayor from Essen Rudolf Jelinek and Norbert Tüffers from the FKK (Kupferdreher Carnival Festival Committee). Fitting for a real “Oktoberfest”, the Mayor from Essen carried out the beer tapping ceremony, however with the joint support of Michal Adam as the keg had been somewhat shaken before reaching the stage.
Johannes Weinberger played on several occasions during the two “Oktoberfest” days, and delighted the Essener audience with his musical performance. The musical highlight of the evening was provided by Takeo Ischi who had specially traveled to Essen for the appearance, and although he had trouble coping with the cold and damp weather he won the hearts of the “Oktoberfest” visitors in a flash.
Several dance groups made an appearance along with brass bands and music groups from the Essener district, providing the “Oktoberfest” visitors with colorful entertainment for both eyes and ears.
The glass engraver Franz Maier who was accompanied by his wife Johanna from the Bodenmaiser delegation, engraved the desired name of each visitor on his or her glass at no charge, demonstrating the fine art of glass engraving. The castle winery Ramelsberg was reprensented by Günther Schiewagner “Oktoberfest”, and so many an Essener took a bottle of Bärwurz or Weißbier schnapps (wheat beer schnapps) back home.
