Official RWE Fan Club Bodenmais to be founded on 29th May

Official RWE Fan Club Bodenmais to be founded on 29th May

Due to an unusual holiday cover story, the first Rot-Weiss-Essen Fan Club Bodenmais will be established soon, headed by Mayor Michael Adam. During the half-time break of the season’s finale when Rot-Weiss plays against Fortuna Köln on the 29th May, Michael Adam will inaugurate the 1st official Rot-Weis-Essen Fan Club Bodenmais in the center circle on the hallowed turf of the Georg-Melches Stadium.

It was holidaymaker Dieter Berger who got the ball rolling. He complained that the local press didn’t offer the results of his favorite club in the newspaper while on holiday in Bodenmais – and the fact that after reading an advert in the stadium magazine ”KurzeFuffzehn” that initially drew his attention to the resort - “Holiday paradise + RWE = 2 strong partners”, he decided to visit Bodenmais! Actually, Dieter Berger was perfectly happy with the “official RWE holiday resort“, it was just the problem with the missing match results that bothered him. It was the newspaper that made the proposal to vitalize the partnership and establish the first official Rot-Weiss-Essen Fan Club Bodenmais. That’s precisely what Mayor Michael Adam will officially do on the 29th May.

The fact that many holidaymakers are coming from Essen and many new guests show greater interest in Bodenmais due to the partnership with RWE, is the best reason for the fan club. And of course the football club with its long tradition is keen on the idea. Michael Welling, the head chairman from Rot-Weiss Essen said: ”We really are pleasantly astonished that our RWE is receiving so much cordial attention with the spontaneous efforts to establish a fan club!”. He himself has already made numerous recommendations for the official inauguration date and finally together with Mayor Adam the 29th May was set. This is the day when the last match of the season is taking place against Fortuna Köln together with Integration Day, along with the close of the season with live bands and a great program. And now Bodenmais is also a part of the supporting program, at least during the Half-time break.

At present RWE is playing in the fifth division due to insolvency, however they want to be promoted to the fourth division this year and the prospects are good at the moment. No other football club in either the third, fourth or fifth division attracts that many fans in the stadium as Rot-Weiss Essen. Up to 12.500 fans attend home matches – and that’s in the fifth division believe it or not! In the 90’s RWE reached the DFB Cup Final, and just a few years ago they were playing in the second division.

RWE also played an important role in the whole plot of the cinema film “Das Wunder von Bern". In 1955, a year after the first World Cup title, Rot-Weiß Essen won the German League Championship with football legend Helmut Rahn. Willi “Ente“ Lippens, Otto Rehagel, Mario Basler and recently a certain Mesut Özil once played for the old traditional Essener club. RWE want to get rid of its debts as soon as possible and at present they’re getting a new stadium. Bodenmais is looking forward to a collective future with RWE.
