Spring in the Bavarian Forest – it really is the “allerschönere Zeit” (the most beautiful time of the year). This expression dates back to the year 1903 in the magazine “Das Bayerland, a pictorial magazine for Bavarias folk and land”. What was true then is also true now: The spring in the Bavarian Forest really is a dream, which is clearly shown in the 45minute film from Dr. Michael. The film comes on Bavarian Television (BR) at 20:15 on Easter Tuesday.

Going to the Riesloch waterfalls near Bodenmais; probably one of the most magical places in the entire Bavarian Forest, led by hiking guide Uschi Rankl at the very beginning of the film. There’s hardly a more fitting introduction to spring in the Bavarian Forest, than the mighty roar of water from the flume of the waterfalls.

The film covers further topics such as:

The “Hiensölde“. “Sölde” means house and “Hien” are the former inhabitants. In 1436 “Hiensölde” was built as a block construction. It’s the oldest house in the Bavarian Forest, and one of the oldest houses worldwide. At present the house in Mitterfels is being painstakingly renovated.

Virtual “spring beer“, appropriate to the stout beer season, is currently being brewed in the oldest Bavarian family brewery. Described is the “Rhaner Beer”brewery that exists since the year 1283 in Rhan, a village in the borough of Schönthal. Among other beers offered, the “Lilly Bock” is a strong wheat beer named after “Lilly” the daughter of Dr. Alois Plößl, the head of the brewery.

“Diweilen St. Isidor bet, der Engel seine Arbeit tät“(while praying to St. Isidor, the angel did his work) is an inscription that is partially ironical, and partially with an earnest significance. It’s a reverse glass painting on a stone pillar that can be found on the edge of a field near a place called Wegscheid. It depicts an angel tilling the farmers’ field in the spring, while the farmer ”only” prays to Saint Isidor from Sevilla, the patron saint of the farmers who prevents droughts and should bring rain and a good rich harvest. This one or other weather beaten stone pillars with hallow motives, are recently being refurbished by the Wegscheid division of the “Bayerischen Wald-Vereins”.

“S´Bleamerl“ is a song that the over 16 year existing “Old Bavarian brass music group” called ”G´steckenriebler” will play for us. The ”G´steckenriebler” are at home in Wiesenfelden in the foreholds of the Bavarian Forest. When talking about their music, they describe it as being “Old Bavarian dance hall music, a practiced and danced tradition“.

The film also includes: A bird song walk, a walking path for visually handicapped and blind people, an onomatologist, who knows a lot about the word “Lenz” and many lovely examples of nature.
